When you meet someone, you’re supposed to shake his or her hand and look him or her in the eyes. It’s supposed to be a sign of confidence. That’s because our eyes tend to be one of our more “honest” features—they’re the so-called window to the soul. If we’re open with our eyes, we must be confident.
But sometimes people have reasons to feel a little less than confident. And one of those reasons is age—the lines and wrinkles that can develop around the eyelids. Luckily, you don’t always have to put up with those lines and wrinkles. In fact, some of the top treatments for eyelid wrinkles are available from Dr. Rostami and Dr. Nazemzadeh.
What are some of those top treatments? Let’s take a look!
Non Surgical Fixes for Eyelid Wrinkles
Some of the most popular fixes for eyelid wrinkles are non surgical. We should note that one of the best ways to deal with wrinkles is to prevent them. And you can prevent wrinkles (for a time, anyway) by doing something as simple as refraining from smoking tobacco and hydrating well. However, once those wrinkles develop, you’ve got a few options:
- Botox Injections: Depending on what caused the wrinkles in the first place (their location and depth provide a few clues as to this), Botox may be the injectable of choice here. Botox treats muscles that have “contracted” permanently, pulling the attached skin into a wrinkle. This is particularly common around the eyelids because you use those muscles every time you blink. Botox results typically last between 3-6 months.
- Dermal Filler Injections: If the lines and wrinkles around your eyes are instead caused by loss of volume, an injection of a dermal filler will be more appropriate (and, obviously, effective). These fillers (often Juvederm or Voluma) are a way to get some volume back into the area around your eyes, eliminating or diminishing wrinkles and lines. These results can last anywhere from six to eighteen months, depending on the filler.
In certain cases, laser resurfacing procedures may be used to help get you the results you want (either on its own or in conjunction with the injections listed above). Laser resurfacing may cause some redness directly after the procedure, but that redness should subside within 2-3 days, and you will see the youthful new layer of skin beneath!
These non surgical solutions are a great way to get rid of subtle lines and wrinkles. You get, essentially, immediate results without much (if anything) in the way of downtime. For many patients, that’s a great trade off!
Surgical Solutions to Get Rid of Eyelid Wrinkles
In cases where a non surgical solution is not going to be effective, surgical blepharoplasty will be the best way to eliminate eyelid wrinkles. Blepharoplasty, also known as an eyelid lift, is a surgical procedure that directly targets excess skin and out of place fat deposits around the eyes.
So if your wrinkles are caused by excess skin, blepharoplasty is really your best option to eliminate those wrinkles. These days, eyelid lift surgery is a minimally invasive procedure, with recovery lasting only a couple of days (at least initially). So if you want to get rid of excess skin around your eyelids (excess skin that’s causing lines and wrinkles), eyelid lift surgery is the way to go.
Benefits of Eliminating Lines and Wrinkles
There are significant benefits in eliminating lines and wrinkles around the eyes. Not only will you look more youthful to those around you, but you’ll look younger and more energized to yourself. You might not hesitate, for example, to shake someone’s hand and look them right in the eye.
