Laser Eyelid Lift Recovery
What to Expect When You Recover from Eyelid Lift Procedures Employing Lasers
There are many forms of non-invasive eyelid lift procedures, and laser energy devices are always near the top of the list. There’s a good reason for this. Laser devices have a long history of getting excellent results without requiring a significant amount of downtime. And while laser eyelid lift recovery is significantly less demanding than recovery from surgery, it is still helpful to be prepared for that recovery period. That said, recovery from laser eyelid lift is usually pretty mild, and most patients are so thrilled by the results that they definitely feel the procedures are worth the downtime and time they invested.
Additionally, your recovery will vary depending on the type of laser employed in your procedure. Before your procedure, Dr. Rostami or Dr. Nazemzadeh will give you detailed instructions on how best to care for your skin following your procedure. They will also ensure that your skin is prepped with the proper skin care regimen prior to undergoing your procedure, a factor that will contribute to your speedy recovery. Your recovery instructions will be designed to help you get the best possible results from your procedure and ensure those results last. As one of Washington D.C.’s premiere set of experts on eyelid surgery and eyelid procedures, Dr. Nazemzadeh and Dr. Rostami can help you get excellent results.

What is a Laser Eyelid Lift?
In order to understand recovery from laser eyelid lift procedures, it is helpful to first understand the procedure in question. While there are variations on laser eyelid lift procedures–especially involving various laser systems–the basic principles are the same. The laser uses heat to peel away the outermost layer of your skin. This has two major benefits:
- Most damage to the skin is located on the surface layer. By removing the outermost layer, the damage is effectively diminished. It is almost like restoring hardwood floors by refinishing them. The deeper layers of your skin are usually much more youthful and by exposing them, your skin looks younger. This is a process that usually happens naturally, although very slowly. By revealing this deeper layer all at once, your skin looks restored, fresh, and young.
- The natural healing powers of your skin are mobilized when you get a laser eyelid lift procedure. Because the skin is–in your body’s mind–damaged, your body tries to repair it, releasing all kinds of helpful compounds, including collagen. Because of the way that laser systems work, your skin is able to use most of those healing powers for rejuvenation instead, meaning the skin around your eyes will look more vibrant.
Generally, patients who get laser eyelid lift procedures are seeking more modest results than those offered by eyelid surgery (or blepharoplasty). Wrinkles around the eyes can make the face look significantly older and more fatigued. Laser eyelid lift procedures can reduce wrinkles, eliminate dull rough skin, and help tighten excess skin. It is a viable and valued option for many patients who are not good candidates for surgical eyelid lift procedures.
Your Eyelid Lift Recovery After Laser Procedure
Everybody’s recovery will be different; even non-invasive cosmetic procedures such as laser eyelid lift have different effects on different individuals. Therefore, there will certainly be some individuality when it comes to the recovery. However, most laser eyelid treatments follow the same recovery patterns. In general, patients will return home immediately following their laser eyelid procedure. In most cases, activity is not limited after the procedure, however, patients may want to wait several days before going back to work in order to give the skin time to heal.
Immediately after your eyelid lift procedure, your skin may feel as though you have a severe sunburn. Some patients experience a tingling or burning sensation. Your skin will also be red. Within the first few days after your laser procedure, you may experience peeling of the skin (in other cases, your skin may take on an “ashy” appearance). These symptoms should pass within two to three days after your initial treatment.
Some results will be apparent immediately following your laser eyelid lift procedure. Once the redness subsides, your skin will look more youthful and many of your age spots and lines may be much less noticeable. Additionally, as the collagen in your skin begins to act, a youthful radiance should return to your skin. In order to maintain the best possible results, most patients are advised to avoid heavy exposure to sunlight and to wear strong sunscreen if he/she is going to be out in the sun for a long duration. This is largely to protect the newly refreshed treated skin around your eyes.
A Short Recovery for Long-Term Results
The benefit of most laser eyelid lift treatments is that the recovery process goes relatively quickly with minimal discomfort. This allows patients to be back to work in 3-5 days, causing minimal disruption to one’s normal, daily life. For patients looking to eliminate lines, wrinkles, age spots, and pigmentation problems around the eyes, this makes laser eyelid surgery an effective and highly sought after procedure.
However, the eyes are a sensitive area, and any laser procedure around the eyes should be performed by a highly qualified surgeon.
