Micro Laser Peel
Micro Laser Peel Can Help you Rejuvenate
As you age, your skin absorbs a significant amount of damage. This damage can come from sunlight, wind, temperature–all kinds of places. In terms of what this damage means for your eyes, there are several issues that patients commonly note: lines and wrinkles, age spots, and discoloration around the eyes. When these issues manifest around the eyes, the effects can be amplified; you might look significantly older and more fatigued than you feel. Some patients feel that others find them to look angry or depressed due to the orientation of the fine lines and wrinkles around their eyes. For patients that want to treat the skin around the eyes, Dr. Rostami and Dr. Nazemzadeh sometimes like to use a procedure known as a Micro Laser Peel. Although MicroLaserPeel™ is a trademark of Sciton Inc., the laser manufacturer, the term is used to refer to a laser peel that delivers “great results with minimal downtime”.
A Micro Laser Peel is a superficial skin resurfacing procedure designed to make skin look and feel rejuvenated by focusing on the outermost layer of tissue. Most people tend to think of the skin in a rather monolithic way, as one layer. But the skin is actually composed of many, many layers. Most of the damage the skin shows–lines, wrinkles, age spots, and so on–is located on that outermost layer. A Micro Laser Peel will, in a very focused and controlled way, remove that outer layer of skin. This exposes the healthier, more youthful looking skin beneath. When this is performed around the eyelids, the entire face can appear brighter and more energized as a result.
Am I a Good Candidate for Micro Laser Peel?
Patients who have light to moderate damage and aging around the eyes might be good candidates for this type of laser eyelid lift procedure. In some cases, patients will want to consider a surgical eyelid lift procedure, during which the excess tissue around the eyes will be surgically removed. Micro Laser Peel procedures are usually performed when symptoms are less severe than those that call for surgery. Dr. Rostami and Dr. Nazemzadeh generally look for the following characteristics in their Micro Laser Peel patients:
- Light to moderate lines or wrinkles around the eyes
- Age spots around the eyes
- Discoloration around the eyes
- A desire for smoother and less visible wrinkles around the eyes
- Symptoms that are not severe enough to require surgery
- Not a good candidate for surgery or not desiring surgery
- Desire for a quick procedure with relatively short recovery period
- Realistic expectations about what this procedure can accomplish
If you are interested in a Micro Laser Peel procedure, or feel that this procedure would be a good way to get the results you’re after, schedule a consultation with Dr. Rostami or Dr. Nazemzadeh. During this consultation, you will discuss your desired results and the best way to achieve them, including how many sessions it may take and how much time you can expect the procedure to require.
The Micro Laser Peel Procedure
Most Micro Laser Peel procedures can be accomplished in fifteen to thirty minutes, depending on the size of the area to be treated. Dr. Rostami and Dr. Nazemzadeh focus the treatment around the eyes, a relatively small surface area, but an extremely delicate area requiring special attention and expertise. The procedure itself will include a few simple steps: your skin will be cleaned, your eyes themselves will be shielded, and then Dr. Rostami or Dr. Nazemzadeh will place a laser handpiece against your skin. Using computer-assisted targeting, the laser will then gently remove the very outermost layer of your skin, exposing the more youthful looking skin beneath.
One of the benefits of Micro Laser Peel treatments–even compared to other laser systems–is that patients feel relatively little discomfort. This is because the Micro Laser Peel system only treats the outermost layer of your skin. Once the treatment is complete, patients are usually allowed to return to normal activities. However, most patients will wait 3-4 days to return to work (this is why Micro Laser Peels are sometimes referred to as “the weekend peel”).
Micro Laser Peel Recovery and Results
Immediately following your Micro Laser Peel, you will likely notice redness of the skin, usually combined with peeling of the skin. This may manifest as a “frosty” appearance. Some patients have also remarked that the skin will be sensitive, and have compared the sensation to that of a sunburn. Any redness and discomfort will usually subside in three to four days.
Patients who have undergone Micro Laser Peel procedures often remark that they look and feel more youthful and vibrant. The results of Micro Laser Peel treatments will begin to show within 3-4 days–this means a more even skin tone, fewer lines and wrinkles, and diminishing age spots. Although this procedure as practiced by Dr. Rostami and Dr. Nazemzadeh solely focuses on the eyes, patients notice rejuvenation of the entire face. So if you want your face to look more youthful and fresh–and if you want the boost in confidence and self esteem that comes with it–contact Dr. Nazemzadeh or Dr. Rostami to schedule a confidential consultation for a Micro Laser Peel for the eyelids.
