Microneedling for Eyes
Get Your Microneedling for Eyes in Virginia
The skin has amazing healing powers. If you stop and think about every cut and every scrape you’ve ever had in your life, chances are very little physical evidence remains of many of them. Your skin has an amazing ability to heal itself, to make everything look whole and cohesive. There are limits to this healing ability, of course, and every scar is a reflection of that. However, that does not mitigate the amazing power of your skin to revitalize and repair. Dr. Rostami and Dr. Nazemzadeh are able to take that power and use it to rejuvenate the skin around your eyes thanks to a procedure known as Microneedling.
Microneedling procedures, also know as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT, use a device (Dermapen or Micropen) that creates micro injuries in the form of many tiny incisions on the very surface of the skin. These incisions are usually measured in millimeters, so they are quite small and cause no real damage to your skin. However, the procedure “tricks” your skin into energizing those healing properties; without any real damage to heal, your skin’s attempt at healing itself aids in the production of collagen and elastin resulting in a reduction in wrinkles and a rejuvenated eye area. There are some additional elements to Microneedling, and many practitioners pair it with an injection of Platelet Rich Plasma (please visit our PRP page for more information). The end results are eyelids that appear significantly more vibrant and youthful.
How Does Microneedling Around the Eyes Work?
As you age, it’s not uncommon for wrinkles to appear around your eyes. After all, your eyes do a lot of work! They are constantly blinking, looking about, shifting up and down and side to side. That takes a toll on your skin, which is constantly expanding and retracting to accommodate whatever facial expression you currently wish to make. Those wrinkles and lines can sometimes be mitigated by helping the skin to rejuvenate itself, as happens with Microneedling procedures. In fact, Microneedling is an exceptionally common procedure for the overall face–many patients love the way it brings an overall more youthful glow to the face.
Microneedling is particularly potent around the eyes, mostly because of the way that skin collects, folds, and wrinkles around the eyes. Great improvements can be achieved with subtle results! Dr. Rostami or Dr. Nazemzadeh will use the microneedling device to create dozens of small incisions around the eyes. When appropriate, the microneedling will be supplemented with injections of Platelet Rich Plasma in order to give the results an extra boost! As the small incisions heal, your skin releases collagen and elastin, each of which work to rejuvenate the appearance of your skin around the eyes. In addition, the micro channels created by the microneedling device allow for better absorption not only of topical PRP, but other topical rejuvenating agents such as hyaluronic acid and growth factor based solutions, serums and creams.
Because the skin around the eyes is relatively sensitive, it’s important to make sure you get your Microneedling treatment from highly qualified medical professionals, such as Dr. Rostami and Dr. Nazemzadeh. Both of our surgeons have extensive experience getting great results for our patients.

Microneedling Results and Recovery
The Microneedling procedure is one that can be accomplished in a relatively quick and simple fashion. Your provider will run the Dermapen device over the treated area, in some cases stopping to make supplementary injections. The overall process usually takes less than thirty minutes, unless a larger area is being treated. It is important to note that the skin around your eyes will be red immediately after your procedure. This redness should subside in the next day or two. For that duration, you should also refrain from applying products that irritates your skin to your face (for example, avoid using exfoliating face-wash). Complete recovery is usually achieved in three to four days.
It may take several days to several weeks to begin to see the final results of your procedure; the collagen and elastin need time to work. However, once those results begin to manifest, you should notice that the skin around your eyes is smoother and more vibrant. Wrinkles and lines should be much more difficult to see. When patients see these results, they often report feeling a surge of confidence and energy; because they look more youthful, the often feel more youthful. Additionally, the smoothness of the skin beneath the eyes can often make the face appear more broadly youthful and well rested.
