Mini Facelift – Local Anesthesia
A Mini Facelift in Washington DC
Any type of eyelid lift procedure is designed to have a benefit for the entire face. In other words, by making the eyes look younger, you make the face look more youthful. This is due to the eyes being a rather strong focal point of the face–they are often cited as the most noticeable and memorable characteristic of any individual. However, sometimes making the eyes appear more youthful is not enough to improve the overall look of the face. In some cases, when the eyes appear much more youthful than the rest of the face, the imbalance can create a kind of disproportion or imbalance.. A mini facelift performed along with an eyelid lift offers a great solution to patients seeking to achieve a balanced result with less downtime.
A mini facelift, which is performed with local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia, is a great way to get great, impactful results without having to address the face as a whole. Other terms used to refer to a mini-facelift are short scar facelift, S-lift, or baby boomer facelift. This procedure uses very small incisions to eliminate targeted lines and wrinkles and are preferably indicated in patients with signs of aging in the middle of the face. They are often paired with eyelid lift procedures because they are both minimally invasive, require a relatively short recovery period, and offer complimentary results. That is, the mini facelift will often make the results of the eyelid lift more powerful and vice versa. Am I a Good Candidate for a Mini Facelift with Local Anesthesia?
A mini facelift can be a good option for a wide variety of patients looking to take a few years off their face. In general, our mini facelift patients need to have an understanding of what this procedure can accomplish for them and be healthy enough for surgery. More specifically, we look for the following characteristics in our mini facelift patients:
- A desire to have a more youthful looking face
- Lines and wrinkles that make the patient look older than they feel
- A desire for effectively permanent results
- Overall good health (healthy enough for surgery)
- An overall stable weight
- Realistic expectations of what this procedure can accomplish
- Candidates show signs of aging in the mid-face
We also look for patients who are comfortable with procedures that use local anesthesia and for patients who are able to avoid smoking or other nicotine products during recovery (as these products may inhibit your recovery and compromise your results). If you think you are a good candidate for a mini facelift with local anesthesia in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area, contact Dr. Nazemzadeh or Dr. Rostami to get started right away! What Happens During a Mini Facelift Procedure?
A mini facelift procedure is different from a traditional facelift procedure in several key ways. First and foremost, a traditional facelift can leave long scars and require substantial incisions. This is appropriate for some patients, but many patients benefit instead from the more targeted approach of a mini facelift. During your mini facelift procedure, you will be given a local anesthetic around the face. Patients may also be given an IV of a sedative throughout the procedure. The local anesthetic is much less taxing on the body (and the pocketbook!) than general anesthetic.
Once the anesthetic is active, your surgeon will make a few small incisions–either along the jawline, next to the ear, or along the forehead, depending on the wrinkles you want targeted. In some cases, all three incisions are made, though each are usually no more than a half-inch to inch in length. This allows the surgeon to remove excess tissue and tighten the skin in order to remove lines and wrinkles. Your surgeon will then close the incisions and, after a short immediate recovery in the office, patients are allowed to return home to recuperate.
Mini Facelift Recovery and Results
As performed by Dr. Rostami and Dr. Nazemzadeh, you can expect recovery from your mini facelift with local anesthesia to take around ten days or so. When you return home from surgery, you may experience bruising and swelling around the incision sites. Most patients take roughly a week off of work in order to allow for bruising and swelling to subside to the point where makeup can be applied. By day 7, most patients can resume normal activities (such as exercise) and apply make-up. By day 10, most bruising and swelling should have subsided. Dr. Rostami and Dr. Nazemzadeh give every patient individualized care and recovery instructions in order to minimize discomfort and maximize results.
For most patients, mini facelift procedures can take five years off your face (and even more if the procedure is accompanied by an eyelid lift). Patients love the fact that any scars from a mini facelift are incredibly small and easily hidden. Lines, wrinkles, and excess skin are all mitigated, meaning that the face looks more youthful, vibrant, and alert. This can lead to a rise in confidence and self-esteem, making the mini-facelift with local anesthetic procedure incredibly popular. Mini facelifts are a great, minimally-invasive way to take a few years off your face with minimal interruption to your daily life.
